About the Role
We are hiring a Data Center Design Engineer for a leading technology infrastructure business. The role is responsible for designing scalable and resilient data centre infrastructure, covering Low Level Design documentation, engineering drawings, structured cabling, rack layouts, fibre routing, and high density GPU cabling design, together with power and thermal calculations to ensure compliant deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Low Level Design (LLD) documentation for data centre infrastructure projects
- Perform site planning and layout design for greenfield and brownfield DC environments
- Create and review engineering drawings, rack layouts, and infrastructure schematics
- Design structured cabling systems, including fibre and copper backbone distribution
- Prepare and validate rack elevation diagrams with accurate power, network, and cooling allocation
- Plan and optimise fibre runs and pathways, ensuring redundancy and scalability
- Execute point to point port mapping and connectivity documentation
- Design high density GPU cabling architectures with optimal airflow and cable management
- Perform power load calculations, UPS capacity planning, and redundancy validation (N+1, 2N)
- Conduct thermal calculations and cooling capacity planning in line with DC standards
- Collaborate with network, electrical, and facilities teams on end to end infrastructure planning
- Ensure adherence to TIA-942, Uptime Institute guidelines, and IEEE standards
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory)
- 4 to 8 years in data centre design and infrastructure planning
- Prior hands on experience within a data centre environment (mandatory)
- Proven experience preparing LLD and engineering documentation
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, grounding, and power safety standards
- Hands on expertise in structured cabling and fibre infrastructure planning
- Experience designing high density compute environments, GPU racks preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Visio, or Draw.io
- Field engineering experience with passive networking and servers is an advantage
- Exposure to enterprise or hyperscale data centre projects preferred
Certifications (Preferred)
- CDCP, CDCS, or CDCE
- ATD or RCDD Structured Cabling
- Any certification in data centre design, electrical systems, or infrastructure planning
